British singer-songwriter Henry Grace has released “Passing Through,” his latest single from his new album Things Are Moving All Around Me.
An homage to Philadelphia rockers The War On Drugs, “Passing Through” is, like the rest of the songs on the album, a nod to the sense of yearning Henry Grace felt during his years of relocation to America.
Having moved back home to London, Grace's US-inflected rock sensibilities only shine through even more.
According to Henry Grace himself: “I wrote the chorus for [the track] around the time I was making my first record, Alive in America. It was one of those songs that had to travel some miles and hit a few dead ends first before finding its form.”
Recorded at Middle Farm Studios, “Passing Through” was co-produced by Blaine Harrison of Mystery Jets.
The song is a knee-bouncing ode to Americana and the dominance of Springsteen, as Henry Grace sings “I ain’t sticking around/I ain’t sticking around/I’m only passing through.”
The light and breezy tone of the song belies a subtle melancholy, as well as a sense of impermanence that a band on the road will be more than used to.
The rest of the album showcases Henry Grace’s newfound identity as more than a solo singer, now competently leading his own band, something which he has described as “one of the great joys of [his] life.”
