Missouri-born, LA-based singer/songwriter Scout Gillett has released her latest single, “Too Fast To Last”.
Alongside the new single comes the announcement of Scout Gillett’s upcoming album Tough Touch, which is due for release on March 6th via Slouch Records. The former Brooklynite has been working hard and living a lot since the release of her acclaimed debut album No Roof No Floor, between touring nonstop, difficult breakups, and a harrowing near-death experience.
Both a sign and symbol of the amount she’s grown up in the past few years, “Too Fast To Last” is a steady-paced, grunge-tinged pondering on the old adage that life comes at you fast. Scout Gillett sings: “And you’re going too fast/too fast to last/whisper of wind/take me where I’ve never been/these new faces/bring back past phases”.
Scout Gillett’s vocals are equal parts sweet and harsh, full of emotion with an edge of rage, and all the more effective for it. The feelings are clear and summed up in Scout Gillett’s own words. On the track, she said: “This was written right after my first headlining European tour. It felt like I was unable to sustain romantic relationships and like I was always missing friends’ birthdays or shows. This song reflects on the feeling of chasing the highs and new experiences, but also feeling lost and trying to identify what’s changed and what has stayed the same.”
