Toledo-raised artist Amar Miller channels abundant confidence on “FOUL 38,” a track rooted in a layered soundscape and his power-packed delivery.
The anthemic track which was born after Miller’s graduation from college brims with a self-assured core as it builds an immersive sonic experience. Though not shaped by specific lyrical narratives, the track still holds a quiet personal touch, as he explains, “That spring, I inherited a few belongings from my grandfather who passed away in 2020. One of which was a .38 Special. So I used that as a focal point of the song for carrying a torch metaphorically and exuding confidence doing so.”
On the process and artists on the track, "I wanted to make sure I got people on the song who I’ve felt super inspired by. I’ve been a fan of Dre Wave$ for a good amount of time and he came out to my school where he had me and a few other friends open up for him. It was a small show for sure, but it was a great time and I was super thankful he put us on like that. He texted me one day to send him an open verse, so I had to send him this joint. Similarly, I’ve been listening to Wakai for a few years now and think he’s an absolutely phenomenal emcee with a great ear for instrumentation. I thought he would be a perfect compliment to this song as I believe he’s also someone who is an incredible rapper but is able to balance that with creating an experience for the listener. I reached out to him and he was with it, and in the end, I got FOUL 38."
