WizTheMc steps into a new era with his latest EP YEBO, a vibrant, rhythmic afro-pop project pulsing with optimism, culture, and self-discovery.
Fresh off the global success of his hit single “Show Me Love,” the Berlin-based South African artist is entering his most transformative chapter yet. Known for crafting music that mirrors the rollercoaster of personal growth, Wiz brings the same emotional clarity to the forefront, blending the airy freedom of indie with the heartbeat of amapiano.
YEBO translates to “yes” in Zulu, and the EP reflects a season of cultural reconnection and emotional honesty in Wiz’s journey back to confidence
After a year of personal and creative evolution, WizTheMC's YEBO provides renewed clarity and a grounded sense of self.
We spoke with him about the moments that reshaped his perspective and the cultural roots that continue to guide his artistry.
Through his reflections on spontaneity and vulnerability, Wiz opens up about the emotional journey that sparked YEBO—and what it means to say “yes” again.
For readers who may be discovering you for the first time, how would you describe the world of WizTheMc and what drives your artistry today?
Great question!
My music and artistry really is a gateway into my world – experiencing how I feel and how I view my world. My artistry is heavily influenced by connection, vibrant expression, and raw emotions.
You have lived between South Africa, Germany, and other parts of the world. How have these different environments shaped your identity and the way you approach making music?
Moving and traveling from place to place massively inspires my music.
I feel really blessed to be able to absorb inspiration from all walks of life, all genres, all aesthetics, and to meet and relate to so many different people.
Being able to relate to so many people across cultures is so beautiful. It showed me how powerful music is in connection and communication. That’s really changed my approach to making music purely in just keeping myself open and spontaneous to wherever inspiration comes from, and not to force anything.
This year has been massive for you! Especially with the global success of “Show Me Love.” At what moment did it hit you that the song had become something bigger than you imagined?
Thank you, thank you! It’s been so great to see all the love for SML.
I think it was right around release, if not close to before it dropped, we were seeing all the stats come in from TikTok. Even more importantly, I was getting hundreds of messages from people telling me how much they loved the song or asking me to release it. That’s when I knew people were really connecting to it.
Your new EP, YEBO marks a fresh chapter. What does this project represent for you personally and creatively?
YEBO for me is really an exploration of my roots through the world of amapiano and afrobeats.
I’ve been working with this sound for over two years now, just learning and getting it right. Having it received so positively is truly overwhelming. The project feels like a rebirth for my artistic identity and personal taste.
The EP is rooted in Afropop energy but still carries your indie and global influences. What was your intention behind blending these sounds on YEBO?
My approach to writing is so open. I find it really intuitive–blending sounds and genres while drawing inspiration from anything and everything.
I’ve learned my best writing comes from not limiting myself to a particular genre label or set of sounds. That experimentation and exploration is what makes my sound really mine.
You’ve said that “YEBO” means saying yes to yourself. What were some of the internal or artistic shifts that inspired that mindset?
2024 was a particularly difficult year for me emotionally, and it made me realize how lucky I am to have my close circle around me. They really showed me how to appreciate all the positive things that were happening in my life and helped me learn how to let go of a lot of attachments and any fixed notions of how I think things should turn out.
Being able to free myself from that allowed me to show who I am more openly and get back into writing with less ego.
"Show Me Love" and the whole YEBO project would have never happened without it!
“At The Party,” “Sensational,” and the fan favorites all feel like snapshots of different emotions and moments. Which track best captures where you are in life right now, and why?
That’s such a hard one. They really all speak to me at different times.
Right now, I’d say "Left Will Go Right." It’s such a hopeful song that means so much to me. It represents faith, connection, and peace of mind.
The Tyla remix & Coachella performance felt like a major milestone in your career. Can you take us behind the scenes of that collaboration and what that performance meant to you personally?
I remember it was at some point in April that I got the call that Tyla was going to do the remix, and I couldn’t really believe it, you know?
To then have her ask me to perform with her at Coachella was so cool. It meant the world not only because she’s a superstar and talented performer, but she’s also South African. It just felt like such a full-circle moment to perform the song with her.
With YEBO, what do you hope listeners walk away feeling? If there’s one message you want fans to hold onto from this era, what is it?
My message to listeners is this: This era is all about expressing yourself.
Let yourself shoot for the moon and let yourself live the life you deserve.
