Paris WYA begs a lost love on new single "Treat Me Right"

Pop artist Paris WYA has released her new single, “Treat Me Right.”

A self-styled “love letter to the ghost of what could have been,” “Treat Me Right” features Paris WYA’s sweet, echoing vocals layered over synth percussion and acoustic guitar and an infectious bass line, coming together to create something both heartbreaking and tentatively hopeful.

Paris WYA sings “so just treat me right/cause I swear your hand molds itself to mine/don’t need no one else/cause you know me more than anyone else before.” There’s an open desperation to the lyrics, as Paris WYA battles against her feelings of knowing she deserves more, while at the same time believing that the wrong person for it might yet turn themselves around.

According to Paris WYA: “It’s about the kind of first love that never leaves quietly, the one that lingers in muscle memory, in the shape of someone’s hand, in the way they once said your name. It’s about looking back with open wounds, and still believing somewhere deep down that if they had just loved you right, maybe you could’ve made it.”

Born in Shanghai and raised across Asia, Europe, and the United States, Paris WYA’s diverse background is integral to her work and artistic output, having already released the EPs Untangled and GLITCH. Her varying influences will be brought together on her upcoming project Mannequin.
