Folk artist Anna May has released her new single, “Atom Bomb.”
Recorded by Steve Rizzo at Stable Sound Studios, “Atom Bomb” is Anna May’s latest since she released “Fireflies and Buffalo” in October earlier this year, and the track symbolises everything “scorched, devastated, and hollowed out”, according to the artist herself.
“Atom Bomb” features a simple acoustic guitar melody alongside Anna May’s smoky vocals, creating at atmosphere and style reminiscent of Elliott Smith’s self-titled second album.
“I wrote Atom Bomb a year ago in early September of 2024, in what seems like miraculous foreshadowing now as I look at these lyrics in the [current] global context. I wrote a song about a break up that had not yet happened,” says May.
“The song is simultaneously about two things, and can be interpreted either way: a meditation on a dying relationship or the depiction of a new and scary world order. Atom Bomb, for me, is proof that sometimes we truly do not know where songs come from.”
Raw and uncompromising, “Atom Bomb” is Anna May’s call to arms against the things that can hurt us, big or small.
