Stories passed down through song are among humanity’s oldest and most cherished traditions.
On their latest single, Las Gargantas does this, but with a side-eye to conventionality.
Lovingly released on Halloween, "La Santa Compaña" puts an upbeat twist on the story of a procession of tormented souls commonly referred to in Spanish folklore as a premonition of death.
Starting strong with a crunchy guitar rhythm, the single quickly builds into a spirited anthem for scoundrels and mischiefs alike, with lines like "la soledad es nuestra amiga/dejamos mierda en cada esquina" (loneliness is our friend, we leave shit in every corner).
Altogether, the arrangement casts a poltergeist-like shadow over a death omen.
Since 2019, Las Gargantas have built their sound with a limitless combination of punk and indie-pop using clean guitar leads and catchy vocal melodies.
Their sound carries the joy that only comes from a band that just has fun making music together.
