In every facet of life, some names leave an indelible mark with their presence and contributions. When it comes to Thai BL, the long-standing partnership between actors Off Jumpol Adulkittiporn and Gun Atthaphan Phunsawat – more commonly referred with the joint moniker OffGun – undoubtedly forms a pillar of the popular genre.
Having worked together for the first time almost a decade ago in Senior Secret : Puppy Honey in 2016/17, the pair have gone on to become one of the cornerstones of the lucrative queer entertainment genre over the years. From Theory of Love in 2019 and Not Me in 2021 to Cooking Crush in 2024 and more, Off and Gun have essayed a range of characters and genres all underpinned by their acting prowess, sizzling chemistry and sense of comfort born out of their natural offscreen bond.
In conversation with Earmilk, Off and Gun who have recently wrapped up their first-ever UK fanmeet dive into their acting journeys, their love for the fandom and roles they’d love to try in the future.
On the cusp of completing a decade of their onscreen partnership, the pair reflect on what they’ve learned from each other on this journey, Gun – who affectionately refers to Off as Papi – says, “We have worked together for so long and on so many projects, and I feel like we’ve developed such a natural understanding of each other. There’s never been any problem when it comes to teamwork. We both know our responsibilities and what needs to be done without having to say much. Over the past ten years, we’ve learned a lot about each other’s personalities. I know what Papi is like, and he knows me well too. What I admire most about him is how much he’s grown. When he first started, he wasn’t an actor yet, he came from a hosting background, but over the years, he’s worked so hard and improved so much. Seeing his growth and how skilled he’s become makes me really proud and happy for him.”
Off adds that their mutual understanding of each other is possibly the most important aspect of their relationship. He says, “I think the most important thing is “understanding each other” and being willing to listen to the other person, not just insisting on your own point of view. I believe that mutual understanding is the best answer because, in the ten years we’ve worked together, we’ve hardly ever argued. That’s really important. We understand, respect, and value each other.”’
How they appreciate and value each other – on and offscreen – is the foundation of OffGun’s growth both as a pair and as individuals in the industry. On the most memorable parts of their career, Gun, who began his acting journey as a child actor, has a long path behind him to showcase his evolution.
He says, “Honestly, every stage of my journey has been memorable in its own way. I’ve seen myself grow through different stages of life. When I was a kid, going to a set felt like going to a playground. It was just fun spending time with friends and playing while working. But as I got older, my perspective changed. I began to really enjoy acting because I could study and understand my characters more deeply. I remember when I was little, I used to have someone read the script aloud so I could memorize it. Now I analyze and interpret it myself, which makes the process even more fulfilling. Every time I’m on set, I feel happy and inspired, and that’s what makes each moment in my career so meaningful and memorable to me.”
Meanwhile, for Off who began his career as a TV host, their fans are the most precious takeaway from his career. He says, “I never imagined that one day I would become known or get the chance to work with Gun like this. It’s gone far beyond what I ever expected, and I’m really grateful for that. Our fans are a big motivation that keeps us going, because we know who we’re working hard for and who’s always there supporting us.”
On the topic of their fans – known by the collective name Babii – the pair delve into their first UK and European fanmeeting. Speaking of the London fanmeet which coincided with his birthday in October, Gun says, “This was my very first fan meeting in the UK, and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve actually never had the chance to visit any of the three European countries we went to, so it’s really special for me. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. Each country we visited was so beautiful, and I’ve always dreamt of going there someday. What makes it even more meaningful is that the trip happened to fall around my birthday, so I got to celebrate with fans who have been supporting and cheering for me all along. It was truly a memorable and heartwarming experience.”
Describing the event as yet another opportunity to bring their unique “OffGun” chemistry to life, Off adds, “We really wanted to give it our all. What fans have been waiting for most is the chance to see us in person, and we hope everyone who came to see us left with happiness and wonderful memories.”
The duo further share their gratitude to their fanbase across the globe, with Off expressing his hope to make his fans as happy as they’ve made them. He says, “No matter where we go, even in Europe, fans always come to our fan meetings and give us so much encouragement. It really makes us happy and helps us enjoy performing on stage even more. I hope everyone receives as much happiness from us as we feel being with you, because we always give our best every time we’re together. Thank you so much for following and supporting us all this time, and I hope you’ll continue supporting us for a long, long time to come.”
Gun adds, “Thank you so much for always supporting me and Papi. I’m truly happy and deeply grateful that everyone continues to send us love and encouragement. I feel very lucky to have all of you by my side, even though we may be far apart. When we went to Europe, we could still feel everyone’s support from across the world, and that really meant a lot to me. Thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart. If I ever get the chance, I’d love to visit and meet fans in every part of the world.”
Their most recent fanmeet is only one more milestone in their ever-expanding journey together. Looking ahead, the actors reveal what sort of roles they’d love to try in the future. For Gun, a veteran actor both in and outside of BL, there’s a desire to challenge himself more.
He says, “Honestly, I’d love to take on more roles that pushes my limits or allows me to explore characters I’ve never played before. I feel that every role I’ve taken on, no matter the series, has taught me something new and given me different experiences and acting techniques. All of that has helped me grow and improve as an actor. For the future, I don’t have a specific type of role in mind yet, but if an interesting or challenging script comes along, I’d definitely be open to trying anything.”
Expanding further on his bucketlist for the future, Gun adds, “I’d also love to do more movies in the future. Filming a movie feels very different and exciting, it’s a unique kind of experience. Since joining this industry, I’ve been lucky to try so many new things, including things I never imagined doing. I feel grateful that I genuinely love acting because it constantly gives me new experiences. For example, in one project I had to ride a big bike, so I went and learned how to ride one for real. In others, I had to pick up new skills to fit the role. Every challenge has become a valuable experience, and I’m really thankful for that.”
While Gun approaches his craft with an openness to try anything that comes his way, Off who has steadily built his filmography with diverse roles over the years is more specific when he shares his ideas for the future. About the type of roles he’d love to try, he says, “I’d like to try playing a police officer in a detective or investigation-themed story. I’ve always enjoyed watching that kind of movie, and I feel that a police role would make me look smart, cool, charming, and a bit more mysterious.”
Off also reveals his wish to hopefully create a show that allows fans to discover his genuine dynamics not just with Gun, but with fellow veteran BL pairing Tay Tawan and New Thitipoom (TayNew). He explains, “In the future, I’d love to create a show called “OffGun TayNew.” I want everyone to see our real personalities and how fun we are when the four of us are together. Even though all four of us have very different personalities, whenever we’re together it’s always full of laughter and endless fun. That’s something I really want to share with everyone.”
Having fortified a partnership based on not just helping each other grow but also enjoying each other’s company, OffGun have clearly been a long yet memorable journey with plenty more to come. In the fast-moving world of entertainment – particularly one like BL where your creative identity is intrinsically tied to your onscreen partner – the genuine respect and care that Off and Gun hold for each other sets them apart in a sea of acting duos.
So, Thai entertainment might expand and take many different paths, but OffGun will always be a mainstay of the genre – consistently showing the world why they’ve lasted as long as they have.
