London five-piece Sweet Unrest share emotive yet intense single “Sometimes,” delivering high octane sonics swaying between softness and urgency.Balancing delicate moments with a ferocious pulse of energy, the evocative production opens with mellow acoustics before erupting with crunchy 90s rock edges.
Spanning frenzied guitars, heavy drums and sharp vocals, the heartfelt anthem hones in on the quintet’s signature grit-pop musicality as it leads us on an emotional journey that feels as brooding as it does celebratory.
Speaking of the track, lead vocalist Jack River says,“This song started about a breakup, but I abandoned it because I couldn’t figure out the rest. Then two of my mates died in the same week, and the rest of the song just fell out of me. After their deaths, I realised how I wanted to live: to love better. If I could do that, they wouldn’t have died for nothing. Though inspired by different events, the song deals with one feeling – accepting loss in any form and celebrating the memory of people who aren’t here anymore. It starts with an aching heart, and explodes into a celebration of joy and life, working through grief in its own way. Every time we play it, I’m reminded that after sadness always comes joy.”
Quietly reflective yet urging you to dance along to the frenetic energy, the track cements Sweet Unrest’s nostalgic yet refreshing alt-rock-tinged artistry as they establish themselves as an act to watch.
