"People are confused about why I'd write a song about infidelity": Jessica Baio on her new song and upcoming album

Pop artist Jessica Baio has released her latest single, “Accident.”

The Utah-based, California-born artist has released the single to gear up for her second album, coming in spring 2026, and it’s a move from her to deepen her artistic expression and mature her sound, while still staying true to the style her fans love and expect from her.

An emotive, vocals-first track, “Accident” sees Jessica Baio mourn a relationship that’s gone sour due to the actions of the other party.

As Baio sings “How’d you accidentally leave my heart in flames?/now it’s all tainted, wasted/how could you do something so tragic/and say it was an accident?,” it’s clear that the person Jessica Baio is singing about has wasted any chance to make it up to her, and she won’t be accepting their apologies any time soon–if ever.

Laden with Jessica Baio’s trademark smoky vocals and given rich texture through the use of slow opening piano chords, “Accident” is a stripped-back, “fuck you” track that oozes raw anger and disappointment.

To give her fans an insight on the track and her upcoming album, Jessica Baio took the time to answer some questions about working on them both.

You’re currently working on your second album – what has the process been like? How has it differed from working on your first album?

When you start a new project, you really have a blank canvas as to where you can take your sound. I took influence from a lot of my favorite songs, both old and new, and really think the direction the album took as a whole feels authentic. Feels like Jess.

Throughout writing for this project, I think I’ve grown more confident in my own lyrical ideas and melodies, and that makes me excited for what music might come in the future. I think when writing my first album, I explored a lot of different sounds, and I did that this time as well, but looking at the tracklist this time around, I feel like I’ve really found my sound.

What were the inspirations behind your new track, “Accident”?

People often comment and are confused as to why I’d write a song about infidelity when I’m in a healthy marriage, and it honestly boils down to the fact that I love to create music that makes people feel something.

I think that’s what makes music so powerful, and those are the songs I’ve always gravitated towards and listened to growing up. I can write a song that’s healing for me and what I’m currently going through, but I think it’s also beautiful to write songs for others and the struggles they might be battling.

With “Accident,” I had the concept written down in my notes for a long time, and while writing, the producer sang a melody to these chords, and it just clicked with a line in my head. The rest of the song really wrote itself from there, and it’s honestly been one of my personal favorites off the entire project.

How did you manage to cultivate such a following on TikTok? Do you find it very different from YouTube?

I joined the app early on when TikTok was just beginning, and it was such an exciting place to create videos. It was new and different, and there was this exhilarating feeling with putting out videos cause anyone could go viral overnight. It started with just doing random trends in high school for fun, to using TikTok as a platform to share my original music and find people who resonated with it!

Over time, with different songs having success, I’ve been able to grow my following to where it is now.

YouTube was a lot different prior to short-form content taking over the world, but I think with that adaption it has become more similar to TikTok in the way people can grow quickly with Shorts!

I’m very grateful for the way YouTube pioneered people becoming content creators! I loved watching family vloggers and cover artists growing up, and that really inspired me to start my own channel and post covers, and was the first place I started gaining supporters of my music.

You just went on your first headline tour earlier this year – what was that like?

The only word that comes close to describing it is just surreal. It’s something I dreamed and prayed for but didn’t think would ever be reality.

Watching videos back now, I still have to pinch myself thinking about the fact that all these people cared enough to come watch me sing. There’s no rush quite like hearing people sing every lyric to every one of your songs. I’m just so grateful to God for blessing me with this opportunity, and I hope I can make Him proud.

How different did you find operating as an indie artist vs signing with 10K Projects?

These are all such great questions – I could talk for hours! But I’ll try not to make this too long.

Being signed to a label is something I never thought would be my reality. I remember driving down to LA with my mom to audition for a TV talent show and dreaming about someday walking into a label office and having someone see something in me.

So I have these moments where I have to take a step back and realize, wow, I’m actually pursuing a career in this crazy music industry, I didn’t think it could be possible.

Being signed is different in a lot of ways, but also the same in so many others. I’m really lucky to be with a label that prides itself on allowing artists to make their own choices. They’ve always listened and supported whatever song I wanted to put out and championed me in their industry connections to help open up the doors for more opportunities.

When it comes to my day-to-day, the way I operate hasn’t changed much. We’re in an era now where artists really have to market themselves and find a way to get their songs out there through social media. I’m also very hands-on with the creative direction for each song and have chosen to stay heavily involved in that process rather than handing it off, but it is comforting to know I have an incredible team supporting me whenever I need help.

Which song of yours is your favourite? I appreciate that there might not be just one answer for this!

The most special song I’ve written will always be “someday” – which is a track I wrote for my husband about his dad who passed. Sharing that song with him will always be so precious to me, and getting to sing it on tour with others who’ve lost someone close will also always be so incredibly special.

Off the new project, that’s so hard! I think it might be the title track, but I haven’t officially announced what that is yet, so you’ll just have to wait and find out!
