The power of good songwriting is immeasurable—especially when it drops you directly into the world of the songwriter for a brief moment, yet somehow begs you to stay a little longer because you relate that much to it.

“Different People” by singer-songwriter Ryan Nealon is a gentle yet heartbreaking reminder that moving on is never easy, no matter how things ended.

Hailing from San Diego, California, Nealon’s vocal and lyrical prowess blend seamlessly, tugging at your heartstrings with an honesty that feels raw and deeply human. With this latest release, he doesn’t miss.

The instrumentation is simple, with warm acoustic guitar forming the backbone of the track and giving space for lyrics like these to soar:

“Now we’re different people, still two blocks from one another.
Different apartments, skeletons in both our closets.
Stopped waiting for closure, do you wish we could start over?
’Cause it kind of stings, doing our favorite things with different people.”

Lyrical mastermind? Singer-songwriter of our generation? Maybe both.

Nealon’s ability to fuse melody with words that hit exactly where it hurts is a gift few artists grasp so effortlessly.

A beautifully, painfully raw song that deserves many listens.
