Maisy Kay embraces the darkness with the irresistible "Death of the Party"

Hit singer-songwriter Maisy Kay has returned with another left-of-center pop banger. Called "Death of the Party", the track is the second release of the year following her successful viral single "Somebody You Never Touched" shared back in July.

With "Death of the Party", Maisy Kay crafts a moody yet empowering track that is as autobiographical as it is raw. The artist came up with the title of the song first, making a play on the phrase "life of the party" but flipped it to describe someone who killed the atmosphere when they arrived. Instead of feeling depressed about the darkness and lack of energy, the song embraces that vibe, creating an intoxicating yet haunting sonic embrace. She shares, “I came up with the name “Death Of The Party” before having any of the song. I think that may be one of the only times I’ve done that. I wanted to make a play on the saying "life of the party”, but flip it, someone who wasn’t really wanted and sort of killed the atmosphere when they joined. It’s how I had been feeling a lot at the time. So, this song is about embracing that darkness and almost finding the fun in the feeling.” Witty and honest lyrics including, "Everybody's on a high / And I'm like God I want to die / Say I ruin everything / Well you might be right / When I enter the room / All the people go quiet / You'll find me dancing in the silence / I'm the death of the party," show this highly relatable narrative. Musically, "Death of the Park" entices with ominous keys, sleek synths and atmospheric pitch-black beats. Maisy Kay's vocals are seductive and immersive, singing incredibly catchy melodies. Brooding, layered and cinematic "Death of the Party" is one of the best songs of the year.

Maisy Kay grew up in a small village in England, moving to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams 10 years ago. Throughout the years she has created many hits, collaborated with the likes of Timbaland, Tiësto, Rodney “Darkchild” Jenkins, and Max Martin protégé Lukas “LULOU” Loules and toured with JVKE and Tori Kelly. Take a listen to her dark pop gem "Death of the Party" and see her on tour with Lauren Spencer Smith.
