Los Angeles indie artist Wintur has just dropped his single “writer’s block,” a reflective musing on the struggle to put pen to paper.
The track is atmospheric, winding, and ethereal, with hints of wanderlust carried by droning surf guitar accents.
Lines like “I keep trying to print in color but it goes back to gray” capture the frustration of not getting it right, using a visual metaphor that resonates more than it’s heard. Wintur’s voice is sweet and familiar, oddly comforting as he navigates the struggle he’s in.
On the meaning behind the song, Wintur says: "I hadn’t written a song in a while and I kept blaming it on writer’s block — but really, I was afraid of what I had to say. I knew that if I picked up my guitar, I’d have to face what I’d been avoiding. When I finally sat down, I wrote this song about my dating life and how it feels like I keep recasting different people into the same role. It’s a carousel I realized I needed to step off of."
Whether you're an artist or not, "writer's block" is a track to play when you’re not feeling your best—a dreamy companion to guide you through a moody moment.
