Ukrainian artist Axxi Oma delivers a stunning debut EP, "Planets and Gods," as she blooms through the boundaries to an imaginary non-religious culture through colorful soundscapes, full of myths.
On its five tracks, including highlights like “Mermaids,” “Hunters,” and the title track, “Planets and Gods,” Axxi Oma creates an ambient four-dimensional space in which folklore meets field recordings, emotion meets imagination. Listeners are enveloped in an ancient and futuristic soundscape, with whispers of the sea, hums of mountains, and reverberations of otherworldly rituals.
Clocking in at only 17 minutes and 50 seconds, Planets and Gods may be brief, but each song feels like a portal into another element of the artist’s imagined civilization. There’s an ethereal balance here between the natural and the mystical, between human feeling and divine abstraction. The result is a pensive EP that asks what it means to believe, belong, and construct culture from the grassroots level.
With "Planets and Gods," Axxi Oma emerges as a transgressive artist to watch, creating fantastic ambient/conceptual sound that goes beyond borders.
