At the crux of a modern shoegaze evolution, Irish indie rock five-piece Just Mustard is constantly pushing the boundaries on how to hone in that quiet/loud noise duality that masters and lovers of the genre constantly seek. On their latest single, "ENDLESS DEATHLESS," they lay down a blanket of eerie comfort that is nearly impossible to describe.
The song constantly blurs the line between synth, guitar, and percussion, using processing to eliminate discernibility of the instruments and focus more on the overall blend of sounds.
Around the three minute mark, the song deconstructs into a wave of echoes and low fuzz before re-building into a smash ending. This extra element allows the composition to fulfill its journey, and brings the song to another level with just one momentary element.
Vocalist Katie Ball falls into her niche more than ever on this track, sustaining long notes with a haunting tone reminiscent of legendary Cranes vocalist Alison Shaw. This comparison doesn't come lightly. Creating an auditory impact like that takes time, and after ten years as a band, Just Mustard is solidifying their status as an iconic sound of our time.
This is the third single off of their upcoming album, WE WERE JUST HERE, set to be released on October 24th 2025.
