Toronto coldwave duo Traitrs unveils powerful single “Burn In Heaven,” a commanding anthem that explores the dangerous clash between faith and science.
Led by thundering beats and haunting yet bellowing howls, the track begins with an ominous touch underscored by visceral layers of atmospheric synths and jagged guitars to make for a dense yet cinematic soundscape.
A retro-futurist darkwave anthem, the intense track draws from the harrowing real-life story of 23-year-old Anneliese Michel, who underwent 67 exorcisms before dying of malnutrition—a tragedy that exposed the devastating consequences when blind faith eclipses medical science.
Speaking of their latest offering, the band says, "The song deals with possession and the extremities of faith vs science. It examines the instilled religious beliefs where people think they're going to get a pardon by god for horrifying acts when they get to heaven. It's this idea that shaped the entirety of our new record.”
Delivering a splendid blend of vivid yet horror-laden imagery alongside anthemic yet dreamy sonics, Traitrs continues to establish themselves as a fierce, sonically expansive act.
