Berlin-based duo Nick & June (Nick Wolf and Suzie-Lou Kraft) have released their new single, “Husband & Wife.”
Featuring Oscar-nominated composer and violinist Owen Pallett and produced by Grammy winner Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Sharon Van Etten), the song was written by Kraft following the loss of her grandmother.
Included as part of an EP also titled Husband & Wife, the song – as well as the rest of the EP–is a preview for the duo’s upcoming album, New Year’s Face, which is due for release on December 5th. The album will be the duo’s first release since the breakup of their relationship.
A slow, pondering track that opens up with Kraft’s vocals accompanied by piano, the song gently crescendoes up to its first chorus and beyond, giving it a sense of driving forward through the emotional process of mourning and getting to grips with the finality of the death of a loved one.
“I don’t think any song of ours ever came together as quickly or made as much sense as this one,” says Kraft. “It’s a love song from my late grandparents to my dad, maybe also to me. It’s a meaningful one because the lyrics were just there – they didn’t even feel like they were coming from me. Having Owen Pallett contribute strings makes it even more significant.”
Dreamy and ethereal–“Husband & Wife” is a sweet journey of remembrance for anyone who’s lost someone close to them.
