Paperkraft takes Sally C’s Chunkers global with "Play Somethin' Nasty" from forthcoming EP

The global spread of the Chunker sound continues as Sally C taps Osaka’s Paperkraft for the eighth edition of her ever-potent Big Saldo’s Chunkers series.

A rising name in Japan’s underground, Paperkraft has been turning heads with his break-heavy, old-school-leaning releases on Physical Education, Homage, and more.

Now he’s back with a new single, “Play Somethin’ Nasty,” from his forthcoming Somethin’ Nasty EP—a four-track statement seamlessly extending the Chunkers lineage, out October 23.

The lead single “Play Somethin’ Nasty” is available now, and is as bold as its name suggests, boasting a riot of hip-house sass, swollen basslines, and rave-soaked energy that feels like it was engineered for peak-time sweat. The track’s playful vocal chops spark chaos, but it’s the squelchy bass breakdown midway through that cements it as a true Chunker weapon.

Forthcoming on the EP are tracks “Funky Bluh Bluh,” “Drop The O.S.B.,” already road-tested by Job Jobse at DC10, and closing cut “Let It Whip,” marking an eclectic blend of dance floor gems from the Osaka mainstay producer.

For Paperkraft, the EP marks a career milestone: “Having a record come out on Chunkers has always been one of the biggest goals in my career. It still feels like a dream,” he says.

Sally C echoes the sentiment, calling the collection “four bonafide Chunkers” and revealing she’s been rinsing them all summer.

With Somethin’ Nasty, Paperkraft firmly plants the Chunkers flag in Japan. Joining a roster that’s previously featured BELLA, Eliza Rose, and Papa Nugs, he helps carry the label’s sound further onto the global stage.

Somethin’ Nasty isn’t just another entry in the canon—it’s proof that Sally C’s curatorial ear and vision for the label remain unmatched.
