Pretty Little Saturday blooms with vulnerability on new single “Tangerine”

Indie pop artist Pretty Little Saturday boldly embraces a new phase with her new single,“Tangerine.” Far beyond a song, “Tangerine” is the subtle unwinding of something fragile, vulnerability and longing and resilience all settling together into this one glowing space.

From the very first notes, “Tangerine” draws listeners into a world of textured layers, with intimate storytelling tempered by a spit-shined pop edge. Produced with Patrick Doyle (Jennifer Lopez) and Phillip Shaw Bova (Lake Street Dive, Father John Misty, Feist), the song has both emotional impact and precision. Everything, from the organic sway of instruments to the glossy production flourishes, serves to foreground Kristi Knupp’s radiant voice. Her voice confides, questions and reaches out, drawing listeners nearer with each sentence.

In lyrics, “Tangerine” evokes the fragility of isolation and functionally looking for connection. It’s a song whose resonance is both deeply personal and universally relatable, mining the quiet spaces of human experience where uncertainty and hope often coexist. For years, she had worked as live music photographer in Los Angeles, taking photographs of other artists on stage and capturing other musicians’ electric energy, it was time to step out from behind the lens.

So did her single, "Long Overdue," which trafficked in luscious electronic tones and aching melodies. With “Tangerine”, she’s further honing in on her voice, an indie pop artist who is never afraid to mix the intimate Appalachian allure of Asheville’s mountains with the shimmer of big-city culture.
