Out Run delivers a haunting 80s-inspired journey with “Heart Shaped Glass”

Today, the retro-futurist rising duo Out Run, which was started by singer-songwriter Ginevra Abbarchini and multi-instrumentalist Lawrence Fancelli in 2022, have released their new single, “Heart Shaped Glass,” a song that positively shimmers with textures both weaving a deep soundscape and yet conscious from the word go, they hold space for a voice to sew itself in.

What distinguishes “Heart Shaped Glass” is the combination of emotional storytelling and immersive sound design. On Out Run, listeners are invited to step into the embrace of vulnerability through the shimmering veneers of synth-pop and dark tones of electronics. The result is an aural journey that will appeal to fans of atmospheric pop, synthwave and cinematic electronica in equal measure.

There is a palpable feeling of vision in Out Run’s output. What they’re trying to project is not a retro identity but a retro-futurist one. They like the look of the past, but as with all nostalgic craftsmanship or style, they are playing to an audience torn between nostalgia and innovation. On ‘Heart Shaped Glass,’ the pair demonstrates that they are not only furthering and broadening their palette, they could also stake a claim to being one of the most compelling new acts in electronic/alternative music. “Heart Shaped Glass” is a gem! It’s an atmosphere, a narrative, and a sprawling spectacle of sound that illustrates Out Run’s power to craft landscapes as powerful today as they were decades ago.
