One Hundred Moons deliver immersive shoegaze journey on “Ear to Ear”

Toronto’s rising shoegaze outfit One Hundred Moons has unveiled their newest single, “Ear to Ear,” a haunting introduction to what listeners can expect from the band’s forthcoming album Black Avalanche. The song unfolds like a whisper in a dimly lit corridor, vocals weaving through a haze of murky guitars while minor chords twist in ways that are both unsettling and strangely magnetic. Listening feels like being led through a haunted labyrinth, never certain what lies around the next turn but compelled to keep moving forward.

The band—Collin Young, Jen Vella, Justin Hunt, Matt Laplante, and NJ Borreta—has quickly become known for creating atmospheres that feel both heavy and ethereal. Influenced by acts such as My Bloody Valentine and Radiohead, their sound fuses the dreamy pull of shoegaze with the grit of 90s alt-rock and the emotional weight of post-rock. “Ear to Ear” amplifies those qualities, offering a track that brims with tension, dissonance, and resonance long after the last note fades.

What makes the single especially gripping is the way it builds layers of sound that feel almost physical. Sharp flourishes of dissonance cut through waves of guitar, heightening the melodic intensity. By the time the track ends, it leaves behind a ghostly afterimage, a spectral echo that lingers in the listener’s mind. It is music designed not just to be heard, but to be felt on a deeper, more visceral level.

“Ear to Ear” arrives as the band takes to the road for a fall tour that began September 19 at Maxwell’s in Waterloo and continues through Oshawa, Niagara, Toronto, Hamilton, and Windsor. Known for their hypnotic live performances, One Hundred Moons transform their layered studio work into immersive stage experiences. The upcoming shows promise to breathe new life into the songs from Black Avalanche, offering audiences the chance to step fully into the band’s sonic world.

With “Ear to Ear,” ONE HUNDRED MOONS once again proves themselves as one of Toronto’s most compelling emerging acts. Their ability to balance beauty and unease, melody and noise, nostalgia and modern edge makes their forthcoming album one to watch. For listeners drawn to music that challenges as much as it captivates, “Ear to Ear” is a window into a journey worth taking.
