Zimbabwe-born, London-based indie-pop singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ananya has released her new single, “Man Ray.”

A cathartic look at young love, loss, and lingering memories, “Man Ray” is about “remembering the little details, the highs and the lows, the fleeting magic you can’t quite hold onto,” says Ananya. “It’s about love that was imperfect but real, and the way certain connections keep pulling at you, even when you’ve walked away. It’s about nostalgia, longing, and the quiet energy that memories carry. The way joy and heartbreak can live side by side, and how some love leaves a mark you can’t forget.”

Ananya’s smooth, dark vocals are a perfect match for “Man Ray,” both emotional and powerful. The song tells the story of someone very young who has felt things deeply.

As Ananya sings “I never got the chance to say/by then we both walked away/you’re not all bad in my memory/that was some love you showed,” the longing is palpable, but the sense of maturity that accompanies her lyrics is calm and almost quiet.

Ananya’s vocals really are the standout on “Man Ray,” the capable instrumentation a perfect showcase for her particular vocal tone. She’s definitely proven herself as one to watch.

Having made waves since her debut album, i woke up one night, released in October 2023, Ananya has steadily worked her way up to a million streams. She shares her mental health journey through her music and through her non-profit, The Nani Project, which addresses Zimbabwe’s mental health crisis.
