Germany-born, Cologne-based emerging indie folk artist Jan Kalter shares stirring single “Save Our Souls,” taken off his debut EP No One Bites And No One Barks. A gentle yet haunting ballad rooted in deep reflection, the track ponders on connection amidst challenging times.
Led by soft folk-tinged instrumentation underscored by delicate acoustic textures alongside wistful lead vocals layered with soaring backing vocals, the ballad-esque track comes to life with an intimate yet expansive feel. Speaking of the track, Kalter says, “‘Save Our Souls’ came from a place of deep reflection on how we connect — or sometimes fail to connect — with each other in challenging times. I wanted the song to feel raw and intimate, so I kept the arrangement stripped-back, letting the voice and acoustic textures carry the emotion. The recording process was almost like a live performance, capturing imperfections that make it human.”
A fragile yet hopeful call for empathy, the track is potent but quiet as it blends raw vulnerability and uplifting intensity in an effortless sweep. The track is accompanied by a moving lyric video which beautifully emphasises the introspective, melancholic mood of the soundscape with dreamy, vintage footage of misty forest terrain.
Having established himself a rising voice in indie folk with his enthralling sonic tales, Kalter who began his musical journey as a child with piano sessions before expanding his craft spanning guitar, trombone, and vocals has continued to grow and evolve with his arresting yet grounding artistry.
