It’s Friday—time to shake off the week and cue up the perfect track to kick off the weekend.
Cue up “Sugar,” the seductive darkwave single from Los Angeles-based artist and producer NYIKO, named a 2025 Artist to Watch by Galore and Sweety High.
The track pulses with synths and angular guitars, exploring lust, control, and the toxic, double-sided nature of desire—perfect for your Friday vibes.
The beauty of darkwave lies in its ability to merge shadowy textures with immersive sonic worlds, transporting listeners to an underground space where darkness and light coexist—because, let’s face it, one can’t exist without the other.
That balance comes through in "Sugar," which opens with an addictive low-end pulse that immediately draws you in, while NYIKO’s confident vocal delivery grounds the track as the arrangement flutters around his melody.
If a song could embody an aesthetic, "Sugar" oozes sensuality, with bursts of color that mirror the single and its music video—sweet and tempting, but not necessarily good for you.
Speaking on the aesthetic of "Sugar" and its music video, Nyiko says: “I designed the custom Sugar bubble gum packs myself. I based the look on classic 5-stick gum packs, not realizing they’re basically out of production now. I mocked everything up in Photoshop, printed at FedEx, and ended up scouring LA until I finally found some at a specialty candy store at The Grove.”
“Sugar” is a desire-driven track with a hooky top-line melody—perfect for getting ready, setting the mood for a night out, or blasting on the drive there.
