Have you heard about the recent social media discourse discussing the club scene? Well, they’re saying that people aren’t dancing in the club anymore. Well, while there is some validity to these sentiments, not everyone is having the same experiences. Rochelle Jordan attracts people who love dancing in the club, and "Doing It Too" invites listeners to immerse themselves in a night filled with dancing and connecting with others. A staple in the underground dance music community, Rochelle brings mystical energy to the dancefloor. I witnessed this energy firsthand when I saw her open for Sango in Chicago in the fall of 2024. She knows how to control a crowd and brings a warmth to the dance floor that gets people dancing.

In her latest single, “Doing It Too,” she creates an open space of intimacy on the dance floor so that the listeners can focus on connecting. As a Chicago house head, house music has always been an uplifting source for me. Rochelle taps into this energy by utilizing classic Chicago house music elements, such as the four on the floor kick drum that creates a vibrant atmosphere for the listener. There's an uplifting yet mysterious resonance created in the background. This quality is emphasized by Rochelle’s lusty yet luscious vocals. This is emphasized by the change in bpm experienced by the song. This helps emphasize the lyrics in the song, especially when Rochelle states, “it’s no apologies, it’s no rules.”

Even though the song has an overall uplifting tempo and vibe, it’s important that a mysterious element was infused with the song. If you look closer at the lyrics, Rochelle is discussing matching the nonchalant energy of the guy she’s dating.  Dating has been a huge topic post-pandemic, especially Gen Z’s lack of success in it. Gen Z has an issue with vulnerability and leaving things ambiguous and undefined. This makes it easier to match energy like Rochelle is doing, instead of being honest about your romantic intentions. But maybe we should take this undefined energy and leave it on the dancefloor like Rochelle is suggesting. With her new album ‘Through the Wall’ releasing September 26, be on the lookout for more dance tracks that energize the club.
