AI Enter-tech company Galaxy Corporation – home to global K-Pop superstar G-DRAGON – has announced the launch of their innovative program 2025 GLOBAL VIRTUAL ARTIST AUDITION. Marking Galaxy’s first large-scale talent search under its newly
formed artist division, the global audition program has been designed to discover and debut a groundbreaking virtual K-Pop group.

Blending the boundaries of music and AI, the auditions are a bold step forward not just for K-pop, but for music at large. Redefining the boundaries of music, identity, and performance within music, this program is the first step to Galaxy Corp's vision of building a world of “entertainers without borders."

Ahead of the live, in-person auditions auditions taking place today, September 8 at El Rey Theatre, in Los Angeles, Galaxy Corp's GK spoke with Earmilk about the idea behind debuting a virtual idol group, how the group will be selected and trained,  the future of AI and virtual reality in music and much more.

Q1. How and when was the idea of creating and debuting a virtual idol group conceived?

When I joined the company in December last year, my first priority was to focus on building Galaxy Corporation’s own intellectual property and strengthening its creative vision. In 2022, Galaxy Corporation successfully launched “Avadream”, a groundbreaking metaverse music show that brought virtual avatars to the stage and delivered performances in a world beyond time and space. Through our work in the AI EnterTech space, we aim to explore the limitless potential of virtual IP, expand its sustainability, and make a bold statement within the global IP industry. As the first step toward that vision, we set out to create and debut a global virtual artist group.

Q2. Tell me a bit about the in-person auditions happening in LA. What will the selection process look like?

The LA audition marks the beginning of IP casting, which lies at the heart of our global virtual artist group project. Unlike the traditional global auditions hosted by K-Pop companies, we set out with the motto of “respecting all possibilities” – beyond the boundaries of genre, gender, and nationality. Our focus is on allowing anyone to apply as an artist and showcase their potential, ultimately creating an artist for everyone.

We are grateful that hundreds of applicants registered for the first online round, and from that pool, we selected those who best expressed their talent and passion as first-round finalists. These candidates will advance to the second offline audition, which will be held in Los Angeles on September 8th. Starting with LA, we plan to expand auditions to multiple cities worldwide. Those who successfully pass regional auditions will undergo diverse training and simulations within Galaxy Corporation’s AI EnterTech system, culminating in their debut as part of the global virtual artist group.

Q3. The impact of AI and virtual reality in the creative field is undeniable. How do you believe the concept of a virtual group will push the boundaries of music?

At my core, I believe music has no boundaries. Going further, creation itself may be one of the most beautiful and unique domains reserved for human beings. Of course, the recent rise of AI has been astonishing – making it possible to generate content in fields like film and music with just a few lines of prompts and a few clicks, where once it required highly specialized expertise. But can we truly say that this alone expands the very influence of creativity?

I view it through the framework of “quantity → quality → extremity → dignity.” From the perspective of quantity, there has undoubtedly been expansion. Though still in its early stages, I believe as AI technology advances and human potential in applying it grows, we will see expansion along the path of quality → extremity (maximization) → dignity (refinement). However, if you ask whether that final stage of dignity can be achieved by AI development alone, my answer is an unequivocal “no.”
At the heart of AI-driven creativity must always be human choice and reflection. It must remain clear that the subject and purpose of creation are, in the end, human. Through our upcoming global virtual artist group, we intend to demonstrate this step by step.

Q4. What new paths or opportunities do you think will open up for artists with the advent of a virtual group?

As I mentioned earlier, the key is “respecting all possibilities.” Whether it’s a new artist or an existing one, there may have been limits to how fully they could express themselves within the traditional system. Galaxy Corporation aims to take the lead in experimenting with and proving that these boundaries can be overcome – together, on the global stage. The details will be revealed through a range of upcoming projects, and we look forward to sharing those results with you.

Q5. On the flip side, do you also foresee any challenges that might need to be overcome?

As many would agree, the institutional foundation – such as AI-related laws and copyright protections – remains underdeveloped and still requires significant improvement. Virtual artists, just like human artists, deserve equal protection and respect. At the same time, we must work to ensure that the anonymity behind virtual identities does not lead to irresponsible behaviour. I believe society as a whole needs to reflect on this issue and collaborate in shaping both the awareness and the institutional safeguards surrounding digital personas.

Q6. What advantages do you think a virtual group and digital stage presence will present for both artists and fans?

The greatest strength of the virtual world lies in its ability to transcend both time and space, offering scalability and permanence. While no human being can overcome time – in other words, mortality – our spirit (soul) can live on, so long as there are people and objects that remember us. In this sense, virtual groups and their digital stages can go far beyond simple entertainment. They have the potential to become a new paradigm of permanence – a way for us to share our spirit across time and space, and to experience that essence together.

Q7. Finally, what will the future of K-pop and music in general look like as virtual groups become more common?

If I may offer a cautious outlook, K-Pop has already established itself as a unique genre loved worldwide. I don’t believe that the mainstreaming of virtual groups will automatically expand K-Pop’s reach – though it will certainly contribute to elevating its universality as a music genre. Personally, I think we need to look at virtual groups from the perspective of “experience” and “permanence,” rather than music alone.

Today, through YouTube and global streaming platforms, we consume content 24/7. Yet the boundaries between categories are blurring, evolving further into an era of hyper-personalization. If Galaxy Corporation’s virtual artist group can resonate with audiences across the globe – perhaps even beyond into space – I believe we could move past the category of “K-Pop” and begin shaping a “new algorithm.” And I cautiously suggest that this algorithm could open up infinite possibilities for people around the world who love music and entertainment.
