Acclaimed musician, guitar virtuoso, and songwriter Duke Charelle returns with a riveting and enticingly potent new single, "Tangerine Sky". A fusion of psychedelic funk, raw hip-hop, and soul-searching lyricism, the track is a powerful reminder of music’s ability to reflect and heal. Teaming up with legendary bassist Greg "G-Rock" Sanders and drummer Dean Ragland of the P-Funk All-Stars, Charelle crafts a rich, groove-heavy sonic foundation, equal parts vintage swagger and forward-thinking innovation. Rapper Chavis Chandler lends his rhythmic cadence to the track, grounding its cosmic introspection with gritty, earthbound bars.
"Tangerine Sky" was born from a moment of reflection the day Prince passed away, a tangerine-colored sunset becoming a catalyst for existential clarity. Duke shares, “I remember feeling free, and while staring at the sky looking at a rose, tangerine color, I began to consider this to be the meaning of life: to enjoy it, with no other reason but to simply enjoy it.” This theme of mindful presence pulses through the track's core, serving as both homage and personal revelation.
Lyrically, the song confronts the illusion of freedom in the modern world, dissecting the traps of digital addiction, material obsession, and the relentless pursuit of success. “Dead-eyed stone focus / Burnt horizon / inject these pixels in your veins / Two-bit,” he sings, with quiet fury. It's a poetic gut-punch, one that critiques the numbing nature of screen-based living and the hollow promises of the grind.
Musically, "Tangerine Sky" is a lush tapestry. Charelle’s fluid, emotive guitar solo unfurls like a sunbeam through smoke, providing both a sonic climax and a meditative release. The rhythm section is airtight: Dean Ragland’s crisp, syncopated drumming keeps the track propulsive, while Sanders' magnetic bassline snakes beneath it all, anchoring the more ethereal elements. The vocals, soulful and unguarded, tie the entire piece together, balancing vulnerability with control.
Duke Charelle has been playing music since kindergarten, starting in choir, then eventually moving onto horns and bass in Jazz bands before picking up the guitar in his high school years. Deondre studied many styles and artists including Jimi Hendrix, Prince and other legends. Duke has performed with some legends in the funk genre & played for crowds at SXSW, Muskegon Music Festival & more. Duke Charelle's single "Liquid Galaxies" reached the top 20 Billboard chart in the Funk Compilation category as well as Itunes #6 in funk. He has further signed to AMGCorp "OKTaeler who has made songs using samples from Duke's Liquid Galaxies, the song that charted in Billboard compilations.
"Tangerine Sky" isn’t just a song, it’s a sermon on simplicity, freedom, and the power of choosing joy in a world that too often sells distraction. It’s a reminder to look up, breathe deeply, and feel the sun while it’s still shining.
