INTERVIEW: Engelhart discusses his creative process behind his chilled groove single "New Beginnings"

We chat with one of the most exciting new house artists in the scene…

With his latest release, "New Beginnings", Engelhart continues to refine a sound that balances electronic precision with organic warmth. Many listeners first discovered his approach through Bhajan, where fluid rhythms and melodic textures introduced his sensitivity to detail.

This new track builds on that foundation, but with a heightened focus on atmosphere and restraint. Layers of synths ebb and flow against grounded percussion, creating a sense of movement that feels both spacious and intentional. Rather than crowding the mix, each element is given room to breathe, resulting in a production that thrives on clarity and balance. A subtle vocal refrain drifts beneath the surface, shaping the mood without ever demanding attention. The result is a piece equally suited for the pulse of a dance floor as it is for careful listening at home. We spoke with Engelhart about his process, patience, and the evolution behind "New Beginnings."

What was the turning point that made you pursue DJing and producing seriously?

The turning point came when I realized music wasn’t just something I loved listening to, but something I wanted to express myself through. I had always been passionate about electronic music, but once I started experimenting with DJing and production, I felt that unique flow where hours would pass without noticing. The first time I saw how my track selection or a production idea could move people and create an atmosphere, I knew I wanted to take it seriously. But I've learned from the past not to take it too seriously. It is very hard to make music your job. It is very much a serious hobby for me, but I've lowered my expectations of becoming a world famous DJ or something. I am in the business for the joy of the music, to try and give this joy to my listeners. In this sense I am taking it very seriously.

What was the initial idea or feeling that sparked New Beginnings?

Honestly, I usually start tracks without a fixed idea. For me, it’s more about showing up with a positive mindset, the excitement to create, and the time and space to really dive in. I let the process guide me rather than forcing a concept. Lately, I’ve been really inspired by Middle Eastern instruments, like the duduk and flute, which bring such a unique texture and atmosphere. I explored that in my track New Beginnings, where those sounds blended beautifully into the overall journey.

Did the track go through many different versions before you were happy with it?

This track actually came together in a single phase. The core idea was there from day one, which doesn’t happen often for me. The groundwork—the tops, bassline, and melody—was all laid down in that first session. After that, it was mainly a matter of spending a few more sessions refining and mixing the track.

Do you feel pressure to make music your full-time career, or are you comfortable balancing it with other work?

I feel very comfortable balancing music with other work. For me, music has to remain a creative outlet, and that only works if there’s no pressure attached to it. In the past, I’ve felt what it’s like to force creativity, and it just didn’t work for me. My best ideas usually come naturally, not under pressure. Once I let go of that expectation, I found so much more joy in the process, and that’s when making music really became fulfilling again.

Have there been moments when you considered stepping away from music? If so, what kept you going?

I have actually stepped away from music for quite some time, about 3-4 years. Due to the pressure. I stopped with university to pursue a full-time job as a DJ/producer and that gave me way too much pressure to succeed. When I realized I could do music as a hobby, or as a side job I started enjoying it again. For me this was a logical decision. Still there are moments when I questioned whether to keep going—like when progress felt slow, or when balancing creative work with my work responsibilities became overwhelming. What kept me from stepping away was the realization that music is more than just a career path for me.

What kind of impact do you hope this track has on listeners over time?

Not sure, I find this a hard question to answer. I think the best impact a track can have is something you don’t fully control as the artist—it’s about how listeners connect with it in their own way. What I do hope is that it resonates with people over time, that they come back to it and find new feelings or details each time they listen. If it can become tied to their own memories or moments, then that’s the most meaningful kind of impact for me.
