Berlin duo Bromsen shares synthwave-rock power on “Data Highway”

Bromsen gets a fix on the pulse of modern life in their latest single, “Data Highway.” This track is a potent blast of energy that reflects the pace and mayhem of our interconnected world. “Data Highway” plows a frisson-packed furrow through synthwave shimmer, indie-rock grit, and high-test electronic beats.

From the very first note, listeners are usually sucked into a futuristic universe of neon-lit melodies and jolting guitar-driven urgency, as the band’s sound tends to come prepackaged with the simultaneous pull of nostalgia and forward-thinking. What distinguishes “Data Highway” is its ability to strike a balance between intensity and accessibility. The track is hook-heavy to the point of being anthemic without ever sounding like something you can play 30 seconds of and nail, its driving rhythm and stacked production unspooling like a scene of high-speed pursuit in a movie, daring you to try and catch it.

Bromsen plays up the tension of living in a hyper-digital world, but they use this pressure to create an anthem that indie rock lovers and electronic fans can get behind. The pairing with Reatsch boosts the song to another level, expanding the dimensions and dynamics that give it added sheen and texture. The result is a track for late-night headphone listening, as swaying to at a club, when strangers glance at one another across the dance floor and come to understand that they’re all running down the same invisible stream.

For Bromsen, “Data Highway” is a sound that speaks to the anxieties, fears, and exhilarations of our time, and to feelings that cut to the existential bone, cast in tones that feel urgent yet eternal. In less than four minutes, the duo offers a sonic snapshot of what working life looks and feels like in the present century, as well as a reminder that, whatever some people say, and even though things move too damn fast now, music still can anchor us, electrify us, and reach us.

With ‘Data Highway,’ Bromsen has pulled out all the stops to deliver on the track that needs to be at the core of the 2025 indie and electronic music discourse. It’s daring, dynamic, and utterly, utterly unforgettable.
