Norwich quartet Takeda shares elegant folk number “Reynardine,” from upcoming debut album In Venus' Train. Built around intricate acoustic guitars, distorted beats and subtle strings, the track captures a poetic sense of unrest and beauty.
Led by nuanced vocals from band leader and writer Josh Harrison, the track moves from ambient textures into an explosive climax, with fuzzy end tones that juxtapose the gentle opening notes. Speaking of the track, Harrison says, “Reynardine is based on the English folk tale of the same name. This song is about the hidden person within, who acts unseen and often undetected until it’s too late.”
Produced by David Pye (Szun Waves, Trudy & the Romance, Faithless, Dido), the track weaves heavy guitars and catchy rhythms together for an expansive sonic experience that toes the line between heartfelt and gritty.
Crafting music that feels enchanting and intense all at once, Takeda’s brand of folk-rock music marries hazy, soaring notes with all-encompassing vocals to offer up a unique mix of melodic and emotional sensibility of folk with the noise and fuzzed guitar tones of grunge.
