Connecticut-based indie rock collective, Modern Refuge, is ushering in their debut full-length album, "Runaway Dream," and right off the bat is making a statement with it. A project that grew out of years of connection born of siblinghood, friendship, and shared creative treks, the album is a testament to the band’s deep roots and unshakeable chemistry.

"Runaway Dream" is a full-on journey, a blend of visceral energy and dreamy atmospherics. Recorded with the help of producer Tom Pisani over 12 tracks, totaling 63 minutes, "Runaway Dream" captures the physical rush of lived experience, the stunning power of the vulnerable mind, and the catharsis of release. Modern Refuge draws you into an ethereal world where regret, longing, and healing are more than lyrical themes, and they’re emotional terrains that are painted across guitars, drums, and soaring vocals.

Up front, the band is led by the powerhouse duo of brothers Sam Winfield (vocals) and Vincent Amendola (guitar), driven by the powerhouse rhythm section of Brian Winfield (drums) and Jim McLoughlin (bass). Collectively, the shared history connected by blood, friendship, and even a life-changing trip to the Arizona desert, lends Runaway Dream an air of authenticity. It feels lived-in, and every note comes from the real weight of memory and hope.

Highlights like “Pearl” glitter as poignant standouts. Between quiet introspection and swelling exultation, the track delves into regret and longing for what’s over, while still tilting toward acceptance, emotional if not intellectual. It’s that kind of song that remains long after the last note, the kind you want to play as the sound of fireworks still echoes in the distance, a soundtrack for reflection and renewal. Yet another jewel, “Sweet Old Time,” cloaks memories in warmth, combining invigorating storytelling with melodies that sound age-old and brand new at the same time.

Throughout the album, the band walks a beautiful line between tenderness and firepower. It’s an album not afraid to give you the chills, or get the heart racing like a blast of sunshine on a night that was just a little too long. Modern Refuge has produced a cathartic, soul-stirring debut in "Runaway Dream" that is sure to resonate nationally. For people who have faith in music’s ability to change the world, this record is something you feel.
