Australian producer 44 Ardent returns with "Curtain Call", transforming a shelved demo into a gripping electronic journey. Originally written as a pitch for a film brief, the track missed its deadline and was buried, only for Callan to rediscover it months later and give it the full treatment.
“This song began as a pitch for a film brief. I was chasing a big, dark, electronic chorus- a wall of sound with high impact. I wasn’t happy with it, so I missed the deadline and buried the demo on a hard drive, only to rediscover it months later,” he says. “The core idea still sounded good to me, which is unusual… it’s always great when you can bring an idea to life and let others hear it rather than let it sit forever on a drive.”
From the start, "Curtain Call" seduces with clean, sung vocals layered over ambient chords, stuttering effects adding tension and texture, and twinkly melodic flourishes that hover delicately in the mix. As the track builds, the chords shift into a more robotic, aggressive sound while the sparkling melody recedes, creating a sense of controlled chaos. A steady drive keeps the track moving, balancing cinematic drama with electronic intensity, and delivering the punch of a fully realised “wall of sound.”
The result is a dark, immersive track that feels both intimate and expansive, a perfect bridge between cinematic ambition and rave-ready energy. "Curtain Call" hints at 44 Ardent’s next chapter, promising a wave of moody, polished electronic music with attention to detail and emotional resonance. It’s a reminder that some ideas, even those nearly forgotten, deserve a second life.
