Singer-songwriter Jack Manley has released his new single “Way Loud”.
Former Cosmonaut frontman Jack Manley has come back to music after a long hiatus – having started and ended a new band (The Jennifer Shop) and coming back from the hell of a near-fatal overdose after years of substance abuse issues.
The event turned out to be a reckoning in many ways, and brought Jack Manley back to music. His new single, “Way Loud”, was created to channel this as a look at estrangement and painful memories that fuses post-punk shoegaze sensibilities and indie falsetto vocals.
Working with producer Shubham Mandal (Clairo, Alex G, Taylor Swift), the track has been released as a teaser for his upcoming album Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?
Equal parts early Smashing Pumpkins and Luna Li, “Way Loud” is a stripped-back, hopeful sounding track. The lyrics stand out as stark contrast to the instrumental’s mood, as Jack sings “miss every single day/heaven made you miserable/but misery’s your way”.
“Way Loud” evokes an almost Modest Mouse-esque sense of hope-tinged misery, and very obviously comes from the heart of someone who’s been through real pain but come out the other side.
