Matreya breaks through the darkness in new single “I Saw The Light”

Birmingham-bred singer/songwriter Matreya makes a bold and bare return with his second single, “I Saw The Light,” a soul-baring anthem charting his emotional turmoil through depression, reflection and recovery. The song, released Friday, July 11, is a statement of survival and spiritual awakening.

Previously in the industry as Mason Noise, Matreya sheds all old personas to release his true identity. “I Saw The Light” goes in deep on the emotional weight of mental health struggles, but even more powerful is its triumphant lightness the feeling of a breakthrough, a moment of clarity, after the storm.

The song is soaked in layers of atmospheric synths and scary melodies which reflect the inner turmoil Matreya was dealing with. But his voice sincere and strong and firm becomes the light to lead us through. A confession that becomes a spiritual awakening, it describes his path through Reiki and inner healing. This is music for the soul.

The music video, however, which features the artist in moody, cinematic backdrops is a reflection of Matreya’s inner world. Every frame is drenched in its own symbolism driving home his journey out from the darkness of his emotions and into a place of peace and presence. It’s a raw and visually striking counterpart to a cut that needs to create both an aural and visceral impact.
