Seattle based goth rock duo Society of the Silver Cross have just shared their mood-drenched, hypnotic new single "Until the Chains Come Off". The track follows the band's 2024 album release Festival of Invocations, which received much critical acclaim.
With "Until the Chains Come Off", Society of the Silver Cross have penned a transformative song all about letting go and releasing what doesn't serve us. Fear, constant negative thoughts, self-doubt and more can be torturous and with their relatable new track, the duo confront these emotions and create a pathway to a ceremony of release. Lyrics including, "Tortured by imagination / Paralyzed by my own making / Until the chains come off," show this narrative. Musically, "Until the Chains Come Off" features hauntingly beautiful layered vocal melodies over gritty guitars and hard hitting drums. Sonically, it is raw and poetic with a cinematic tension that builds and dissolves like a ritual in real time. The production leans into a shadowy atmosphere, evoking elements of darkwave, doom folk, and post-rock. There's a deliberate pacing to the track, it doesn’t rush catharsis, instead allowing each lyric and chord to echo and resonate like mantras in a sacred space. "Until the Chains Come Off" is not just a song, but a ritual of liberation, a sonic purge for anyone burdened by their own internal struggle.
Society of the Silver Cross is a husband and wife songwriting duo composed of Joe Reineke (The Meices, Alien Crime Syndicate) and Karyn Gold-Reineke. The two also run Seattle’s popular recording studio Orbit Audio. Inspired by Indian music, Eastern mysticism and Western sounds, the twosome create their own intoxicating musical mix. Society of the Silver Cross continue to prove they’re more than musicians; they’re sonic shamans guiding listeners through darkness into release.
