Leicester based four-piece The Harbours have shared their debut EP, ‘Are We Nearly There Yet?’. a five-song tribute to adolescent vim, emotional resonance and timeless indie-pop allure. Established in 2024 and led by Ollie Drakard and Will Massarella-Tyler, The Harbours have spread like wildfire on the UK scene. From the sport of playing to multiple festivals across London to Durham, their feel good tunes have gained regular airtime on BBC Introducing in the East Midlands with standout tracks 'Live it up' and the catchy 'Scarlet (Boys That Sing)' voted 'Song of the Week'.
‘Are We Nearly There Yet?’ reveals a young band with an old soul. Bearing a noticeable influence from indies heavyweights such as Two Door Cinema Club, The Kooks and The Wombats, The Harbours provide a style that is vintage and contemporary at the same time. The EP’s first single, ‘What Are We Running For?’ is an homage to those golden early 2010s indie pop dazzlers, driven by commanding melodies and cleverly interlocking guitars that display the band’s growing sense of maturity and songwriting prowess, and every song sounds like an achingly tight 4 way Mexican standoff between striving for something new, while also polishing what already makes them who they are.
Serving up sun-soaked, shimmering, anthem heat in the same vein of The Klaxons, Little Comets, more recently KAWALA, ‘The Flood’ continues Cale, the trio settled upon their sound, already road testing new tracks around the UK and Europe throughout 2019 and 2020; while its B-side, ‘Scarlet (Boys That Sing)’, sees snaking guitars and euphoric rhythms that are made for summer fields and popcorn-sticky venues throughout. Every song on the EP embodies The Harbours’ goal, to tell stories that listeners can mold into their own and link emotion to vibrant musicality.
