Brooklyn, NYC’s own Kinneret has released her new single, “Every Breath”.
Best known for her 2019 single “No Wind Resistance!” – which has so far racked up over 200 million streams – “Every Breath is Kinneret’s follow-up to her recently released song “Solar Kiss”.
According to Kinneret herself, the song is “about the balance between thinking I’m a god and thinking I’m a fragile little animal. Too much of either belief has its problems.”
Which makes sense, coming from an artist who is, in her own words, “a very existential person who is constantly trying to make sense of the world”.
Produced by Torna (Daisy the Great, Del Water Gap), “Every Breath” takes inspiration from 1980s production techniques via the use of digital instruments, particularly the pixelated-sounding drum machine. Kinneret creates a dichotomy of two characters throughout the song, managed via contrasting both clean and heavily autotuned vocals.
The track is, as you can expect from Kinneret, still in her trademark effervescent, sparkling style – but with a dark edge that she always manages well. This can be heard particularly in the lyrics, as Kinneret sings what’s the message/of your expression/will you let yourself love me/or learn a lesson?. These are the feelings of a person torn between two parts of themself, questioning everything even as the beat goes on.
