Fresh-faced pop punk band The Paradox have teamed up with genre legend Travis Barker of blink-182 for their newest single, “Bender.”
Released Friday morning, this marks only the third single for the Atlanta quartet since signing to Hundred Days Records. According to a press release, the song provides a glimpse into what the band is cooking up for their debut album.
The music does well at demonstrating the band’s tight chemistry after just 13 months of performing together. Donald Bryant’s bass is just as speedy as Christopher “Xelan” Bernard’s lead guitar, while lead singer Eric Dangerfield evokes scene greats with his passionate vocal performance.
Percy “PC3” Crews works with Barker to absolutely tear it up on the drums, though not completely overtaking the mix. Other genre staples are added to the mix, too, including crowd vocals and harmonies that will have listeners feeling pumped up.
As the title would suggest, the lyrics describe the narrator attempting to drink their sorrows away to get over a rough breakup. Despite the carefree tone of the music, there remains a clear assertion that the protagonist is not acting like themselves.
While “Bender” shows The Paradox still trying to figure themselves out, knowing their identity at this early a stage is not as important as having fun. Evidently, they are, and that enjoyment is sure to rub off on listeners.
