The Road to "Boston": Junaco’s intimate anthem of self-realization

California trio Junaco create a breezy, cinematic, and dreamy musical oasis with every release, and their latest single, "Boston," is no exception. Serving as the third offering from their highly anticipated LP In Motion, the track continues to showcase the undeniable chemistry between singer-songwriters and musicians Shahana Jaffer, Joey LaRosa and Tejas Leier Heyden. Together, they craft music that feels both intimate and expansive, perfect for reflective moments on long drives or quiet evenings alone.

On "Boston," Junaco explore the journey of self-discovery, radical self-love, and the courage it takes to realign with your authentic self. The song tells the story of losing your way, succumbing to external pressures and expectations, and the quiet realization that change is not only necessary but life-affirming. Shahana’s lyricism is poignant and poetic, as she confesses: “Driving to Boston / How far am I willing to go? / How long till I know? / No one could see what was to come / Drowning my name till I was numb.” Her delivery is soft yet impactful, laced with vulnerability and resolve.

Sonically, “Boston” is a warm, textured blend of gentle guitar riffs, ambient synths, and immersive melodies that slowly build into a lush emotional soundscape. Shahana's serene vocals float above the instrumentation, echoing the introspective themes of the lyrics while maintaining a feeling of calm and clarity. There’s a subtle push-and-pull throughout the track, between holding on and letting go, that mirrors the emotional tension of the song’s narrative.

Junaco wrote the new LP in Northern California during the winter with no internet and limited daylight. The album was recorded in El Paso, Texas produced by the band and engineered by Mario Ramirez. Mixed by Jake Aron and mastered by Heba Kadry. With "Boston," Junaco continue to carve out a distinct space in the indie landscape, one that invites listeners to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves. It’s a stirring reminder that growth often begins the moment you choose yourself.
