Packed with attitude and a fair amount of disdain for playing the ‘content creator’ game at the expense of making and playing the music they love Eades return with another swaggering offering from their new album, Final Sirens Call due out September 18 on Breakfast Records.
With “The Other Side of Life”, Leeds (UK) outfit Eades sharpen their post-punk instincts into a looser sounding snapshot of youthful tension. Building further on their initial raw edged tone this single embraces the warmth of 90s indie and Americana.
From its first riff, the track balances grit and grace, Jittery guitar riffs vie with honky tonk piano and make this a danceable, chant worthy sing-along. The production retains a live feel, with urgency rising and falling, restless. Vocalists Harry Jordan and Tom O’Reilly continue their tandem delivery, weaving together introspection and exasperation in sharp, tightly wound harmonies that feel both confessional and communal.
The band is looking at new horizons even as the usual anxieties rear up. The need to ‘play the game’ but hating it at the same time. The fear of diluting their art to appease algorithms It signals a band growing into themselves, here Eades lean into nuance and narrative, without losing their raucous charm. They’ve honed their craft, delivering an emotionally vivid cut to which their peers and fans can undoubtedly relate.
