TEKNO recharges Afropop with feel-good romance in new single “POWERBANK”

Afrobeats titan TEKNO taps into the dance floor with his new release, "Powerbank." as he channels romance, vulnerability, and that quietly electric strain of love that propels you forward. It's Afropop with a heartbeat, and this time, the fuel is pure feeling.

Co-produced by frequent collaborator and sonic architect Selebobo, "Powerbank" is an exhilarating, feel-good paean to a love that keeps you going in more ways than one. "You be my powerbank, you charge my battery full," Tekno sings, smoothly wrapping himself in sentiment while striking a b-boy stance. It's a metaphor that lands with equal parts humor and heart, told with his sweet vocals gliding over chugging, rhythm-based instrumentation. Anchored in afrobeat, the groove effortlessly transitions into global pop, remaining magnetic, approachable, and instantly replayable.

However, the true magic lies in the music video that accompanies it, a masterstroke of storytelling led by director Kemz. Set amidst the dynamic landscape of Abuja, the visuals roll up like a Nollywood romantic blockbuster, playful, passionate, and filled with cinematic heat. It's a music video where Regina Daniels comes in as Tekno's girlfriend, and the chemistry between the two is excellent. Whether it's exchanging flirty glances or throttling a high-octane car chase, the two exude a sense of mischief and magnetism that carries the whole plot.

This soft moment of intimacy, with hands touching and quiet smiles, against the fast-paced adventure and glossy escapism. It's that rare love story that is both down-to-earth and majestic, ordinary yet idealized. Daniels, already a cultural icon, provides the warmth and gravitas, and Tekno seals the deal with his effortless charisma.

TEKNOs "Powerbank" is a vibe, a filmic love letter, and a reminder that even during the chaos, there is power in connection. TEKNO has shown once again that he only needs to make hits. But most important, he knows how to make them human.
