Geraldo Marshall dares to love again on dreamy single "The Try"

Brooklyn-based artist Geraldo Marshall blends alternative R&B and soul with touches of pop, funk, and indie rock, crafting a sound that's both genre-fluid and distinctly his own.

The 3:14 track opens strong with the chorus, pulling you in immediately with lyrics like: “Must have met you in a past life, your spirit so divine. Heart’s been broken once maybe twice, so I guess third time’s the try.”

Vocally, Marshall evokes a Steve Lacy vibe—smooth and cool—but with a tone and perspective that feel uniquely personal.

What truly stands out, though, is the lush instrumentation and production. The moment the song starts, you’re swept into a dreamy, psychedelic soundscape—like the dazed euphoria of falling hard for someone new.

Speaking on the meaning behind the song, Marshall shares: “It’s easy to let heartbreak and the pain of the past hold us back from trying to love again. ‘The Try’ is about daring to give love another chance, even after repeated disappointment.”

The track showcases Marshall’s keen musical intuition. Each sonic element is carefully layered, from the hypnotic production to the trumpet licks that loop like a melodic mantra, adding dimension and warmth. His subtly monotone vocal delivery keeps things grounded, letting the emotions simmer just beneath the surface.

It’s a heartfelt, well-produced single—and a strong introduction to Marshall’s evolving artistry.
