Freedom Fry, the funky pop duo of Marie Seyrat and Bruce Driscoll, release their new single, "Best Friend." Despite the warm title and soothing synths, the track harbors a dark tale of a toxic friendship. "Best Friend" does an excellent job of offering something to dance to among the haunting waves of vocals and beats.
The duo is one of the best in their approach to their craft with very descriptive work in their lyrics. Along with the moody single, comes an even more haunting music video. The video shows Freedom Fry in a crime filled rage as they kidnap themselves, who just so happen to be paper mache. All the visuals just help to really hammer the cinematic and musical style of the group.
As if the new single and music video wasn't enough, Freedom Fry drops them both along with their new 8 track album, Best Friend.
Much like the single, Best Friend seems to encompass the best of the duo's work. Freedom Fry makes their bones on extracting the best of the 60s, 70s, and 80s pop by giving them a modern take. On Best Friend, Seyrat and Driscoll explore dark themes through a wider scope in a way that has Freedom Fry confront themselves.
With their latest outing, Freedom Fry opens up in their darkest and most well-crafted phase. From emotional folk ballads to pop bangers, Freedom Fry manages to continue to reinvent themselves with each record. With Best Friend, Freedom Fry sets a high bar for themselves as they continue to strive for perfection.
