Hot off the heels of their previous hit single, Atlanta-based indie band Penelope Road has released a new song, “Flowers (Carry Me Home).”
Released Friday via Warner Records, the single is the quintet’s second of the year after “Out Tonight” and coincides with their first stop on their U.S. tour.
The song is a mid-tempo number driven by an elegant piano melody from Charles Eastman and later by Koan Roy-Meighoo’s groovy guitar. Anthony Smith’s drumming has an easygoing feel to it, and the acoustic guitar and James Kopp’s bass come out smooth. It all comes together to create an image of a breezy outdoor jam session.
Likewise, the lyrics are simple, written about two people who seem to push and pull each other constantly. Max Moore’s vocals are soulful, especially with the key changes towards the back half of the song.
While a music video for “Flowers” is not out at the moment, the band released a live performance video of the song in tandem with its release on streaming. The band is set to conclude their tour with dates supporting Lake Street Dive and Goose in the fall.
