Fabrizio Cammarata reflects on solitude and Sicilian roots with new song “Asanta”

Italian artist Fabrizio Cammarata recently unveiled his latest single, “Asanta” hailing from a moment of total stillness and disconnection in the Sicilian hills. With no phone signal, no instruments, and no agenda, Cammarata found himself singing an old melody that had echoed in his mind for years. Recording a spontaneous voice memo of that chant, it soon became the seed of “Asanta” and has since evolved into something beautifully complex, offering the first glimpse of his upcoming album Insularities.

“Asanta” opens in Sicilian and slowly unfolds into English. The track wrestles with inheritance, both cultural, familial, and spiritual, filtered through Cammarata’s cinematic lens. He imagined his mother as a young girl watching a saint’s procession, and that vision became the emotional undercurrent: solemn, intimate, and slightly surreal.

Sonically, “Asanta” is built on a foundation of raw, layered vocals, sparse electronics, and ambient textures, emitting a haunting, ghostly atmosphere that almost feels like a prayer. Drifting between traditional folk elements and more experimental soundscapes, Cammarata has crafted a sound that feels both timeless and limitless.

“Asanta” is an exciting first taste from the upcoming album Insularities, which is set to explore themes of separation, identity, and belonging.
