23-year-old Connecticut-based artist BODHI has released their latest single, “This Little Dove”.
Their first single since “Velvet Blues” earlier this year, BODHI is currently working on their debut album.
An introspective, haunting track, “This Little Dove” is a soundscape of emotional vocals as BODHI sings I fear my body’s getting old / I fear I’m losing my composure / I’m on fire / please tear me off the wires. The worries of age juxtapose with BODHI’s youthful vocals, which are tinged with weariness.
According to BODHI themself: “To set the stage for my album of self-reflection, I start at my lowest moment, a moment of pure burnout and devastation.”
Throughout “This Little Dove”, the sense of building emotion is palpable. Every instrumental element of the track is introduced one by one, creating a layered effect as BODHI’s voice gets stronger – almost as if they’re laying out their soul piece by piece, and coming to terms with their feelings at the same time.
The melody and lyrics feel cyclical, matched by the music video which sees BODHI wander back and forth in a small room, which quick cuts to repetitive motions as BODHI picks up and puts down a guitar. The frustration and aching nature of burnout is more than clear, and BODHI has something to say about it.
They’ve before been described as creating music with ‘the transcendent beauty of shouting your feelings into the void’, and “This Little Dove” captures that perfectly.
