Gabriella Zauna dares you to rise in hypnotic new single, “PINUP”

Gabriella Zauna is back with her new single, "PINUP. " This bold anthem cuts into deep layers of self-doubt and societal pressure and digs through the turmoil we’re usually too afraid to speak about. But rather than wallowing, Zauna's music makes you face the mirror, stand a little taller, and try again.

Styled with enchanting, dreamlike vocals and shadowy, otherworldly production, “PINUP” is all cinema. The track pulses with moody synths, only slightly less haunting harmonies and lyrics that land square where it hurts the most, addressing the silent despair of comparison, the false narrative of the “perfect timeline,” and the toxic decree to be more, do more, look better. It is devastatingly frank, but never hopeless, as if it were some sort of sonic pep talk from a friend who’s seen your worst and knows you still have a comeback left in you.

“This song is a reminder to myself to toughen up,” Zauna told me, and that mantra flows through every kick drum. Her voice is both cutting and vulnerable, perched atop a soundscape up close and wall-to-wall. It’s the kind of song that sticks with you, not because it’s infectious (though it indeed is), but because it’s what you’ve been muttering to yourself in your darkest hours, blending that angst into something formidable.

“PINUP” may be most meaningful for women, those of us whose whole lives have heard the tick-tock of life milestones, who have caught the glances that judge ourselves in the mirror, and who measure ourselves against impossible standards. Zauna shows a way through. This isn’t self-pity. It’s self-rescue.

Written and produced entirely by Zauna herself, “PINUP” cements her status as a young, new artist to watch, one unafraid to lift the veil and reveal the gritty reality beneath. It’s emotional, dreamy, and defiant all at once. If you’ve ever felt stagnated, not good enough, or as though the golden hour of your aspirations had passed you by, Gabriella Zauna’s “PINUP” is the soundtrack to remind you of one thing. You’re just getting started.
