Nashville-via-Australian artist Imogen Clark has released the music video for her poignant new single, “The Art of Getting Through,” a standout track from her latest album Choking on Fuel. The single follows her earlier release this year, “Squinters,” which saw Clark spinning a tale of ‘what if?’—imagining a life where she never left her native Australia for Nashville.
Invoking the spirit and style of Sheryl Crow, “The Art of Getting Through” is a bittersweet song about losing your sense of self through difficult times. Imogen Clark sings "I’ve been shaking in the morning/I’ve been trembling in the night/Wondering if I’ve got the strength/That it takes to be alive" in her strong, warm vocals over a bed of familiar, country-flavored acoustic guitar.
Imogen Clark made her name playing gigs in Western Sydney and touring with the iconic Shania Twain, and Choking on Fuel sees her ‘return to her roots’ after a breakneck year of non-stop touring. According to Clark, “I spent last year on the road around the world, playing headline shows but also touring with Robyn Hitchcock, Steve Poltz, BOWEN YOUNG, and Andrew Fariss.”
Choking on Fuel features a deft mix of Imogen Clark’s rich vocals, songs solely penned by Imogen herself and some co-written with others, as well as a cover and re-imagining of Sheryl Crow’s “If It Makes You Happy” alongside tourmate Kezia Gill to close out the album.
The record’s emotional core shines through on standout single “The Art of Getting Through,” a powerful entry point into Clark’s world of resilience and reflection.
