Lyrical Chris delivers a cinematic masterpiece with “Mind of the Grandchild” [Music Video]

Lyrical Chris is invigorating a force of purpose and precision. His latest music video, “Mind of the Grandchild,” is an immersive event requiring your full attention from the first frame. With the portentous weight of a movie’s opening sequence, “Mind of the Grandchild” lugs us directly into the heart of Los Angeles, only it’s not the kind of West Coast narrative you’re used to.

Chris unpacks his tale with poetic finesse, adding detail upon detail, each bar more gripping than the last. There’s no filler here. Every word is considered, and when you think you know where it’s all going, the narrative makes a sharp left turn, seemingly upending the listener’s perception of the journey. But that’s the point. Lyrical Chris has predictable rhymes or chase trends.

He’s building something timeless that pays its due to the genre’s roots while unapologetically reinventing its future. "Mind of the Grandchild" is only a glimpse at what we can expect from Rough Draft, Chris's new "musical essay," which will consist of five albums, or as the host describes them, "paragraphs," each song serving as a sentence in his larger message. It’s a brave gesture that feels completely in character for an artist as purposeful as this one.

At the heart of his sound is 5D Rap, a genre Chris created with 10 commandments, including no profanity, dissing, or fear tactics. Rather, it runs on authenticity, spirituality, schooling, and love. Which might sound idealistic, but there is nothing soft about that. There’s a fierce, head held high, take-it-or-leave-it quality to Chris’s delivery. With placements already on the Billboard and cracking the iTunes Hip-Hop Top 20, Lyrical Chris shows that positive rap can still pack a punch. “Mind of the Grandchild” is proof of that soulful, cinematic, and deeply human.
