His first offering with Concord Records is one of the most tender within his catalogue.
After a brief two years, Brooklyn singer, multi instrumentalist Cautious Clay is back with his most intentional album to date.
The Hours: Morning is a reserved concept album, with Clay detailing every hour of his day and every thought captured along with it. The project starts with the sensational "Tokyo Lift," kicking off his day at 5am with each song detailing the following hour until ending on (or at) 12pm with "Smoke Break."
While the concept may be a little hazy to explore on the first listen, Clay provides a reservation of quiet observations accompanied by laid back grooves. One of the stand out tracks featured is "Promises (9am)" with mediates this concept of arguing with a (potential) romantic lover over broken promises. A track that oozes this sentiment of "It's too early to have this conversation.
"Promises (9am)" is Clay showcasing his vocal chops with the chorus providing airy, heavenly falsettos that glide along the soft orchestral instrumental.
The track is just one of many that feature ambitious production and showcase Clay's mastery of different instruments and leaves the listeners in a meditative mood as Clay continues to explore the roller coaster of emotions of riding out the day.
